DAVID STERN - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Former NBA Commissioner

David Stern completed his three-decade tenure as NBA commissioner on February 1, 2014.

As commissioner, Stern built the model for professional sports in league operations, public service, global marketing, television distribution and digital technology. He oversaw the NBA’s extraordinary growth with seven new franchises, a more than 30-fold increase in revenues, a dramatic expansion of national television exposure and the launch of two leagues, the Women’s National Basketball Association and the NBA Development League. He negotiated the first anti-drug agreement in professional sports and introduced the salary cap system and revenue sharing to the NBA.

Dave Davies - MODERATOR

Senior Reporter

Dave Davies has covered state and local politics and government in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania for more than 30 years. He’s currently senior reporter for WHYY-FM a public radio station in Philadelphia, and a contributor and fill-in host for Fresh Air with Terry Gross. Before that he was reporter and columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News, where he worked from 1990 to 2010. Before joining the Daily News, Dave was city hall bureau chief for KYW News Radio, and city hall correspondent for WHYY.

He was born and raised in Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas in 1975. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Marna Sternbach. They have two grown children.
